BULLETIN

July 29, 2005 --Lone Pine, California: An Email from John

Hi Everyone,

Just so you all know--I finished my 5th Badwater race--despite some heat cramping--my wonderful crew fixed me up. Thanks guys! Many huge thanks for their stellar help. They were just amazing and really displayed competence.

My adventure across the John MuirTrail was a true challenge of the body and spirit. Mt. Whitney was spectacular on top and worth the effort--having Badwater under your legs and the body seems to slow down--I wonder why!! Heavy snow conditions slowed our trip-deep snow, very swift and deep stream and river crossings, losing the trail, hail and rain storms finding it again, rock hopping, tons of mosquitos--donated blood to the "JMT blood bank"! Sadly, some serious accidents on JMT this year. ...Treated to incredible scenery, 13,000 foot plus peaks, numerous lakes and wild life and amazing vistas. Wow!! 9 days completion. ((: Finished in Yosemite Valley. Quite a place. Tomorrow I run the reverse course of Badwater. Weather forecast:120 plus degrees. Will continue on from Lone Pine and run it back in to Glendale, CA. It's been a great adventure and still is!

Thanks for all the good wishes and support for The Way to Happiness. I appreciate everyone of them. See you all soon. I'll appreciate your cool thoughts along the way!

John

NOTES: [from site Editor]

On the Badwater Run John's time was 46 hours this year but 6 of those were spent trying to recover from heat cramp. Last year was 42 without cramps. Thanks to a vital team member who suggested giving him salt dissolved in water to alleviate those cramps.

On the John Muir Trail he chose not to return back down the trail according to plan due to highly hazardous conditions. His current plan is to make up the missed 215 miles by running from Lone Pine to Glendale via highway 395 to complete his full 700 mile run.

John has had many incredible adventures on the trail. One fellow he met deep in the high Sierra Wilderness pledged $250 to our program upon his return. We still need your support so pledge now. John is only half way there.
